Candidate for Third Ward Councilwoman, City of Plainfield
New Hope, New Vision, A New Leader for the Third Ward
Emily Morgan has lived in the Third Ward of Plainfield, NJ since June of 2000. Emily Morgan currently serves and has served as an elected member of the Plainfield Democratic City Committee for the Sixth District - Third Ward for five years.
Prior to relocating to the City of Plainfield, she served as a social activist beginning in 1973 throughout the greater Newark and Essex County community. The basis for her activism has always been her concern for our most vulnerable citizens, children and those citizens who need a voice at City Hall, as well as the county and state government. Emily Morgan is a dedicated servant–leader.
Emily’s career includes the position of Senior Economist at the New Jersey Transit Corporation. As Senior Economist, Emily supervised staff in the management of a $3.3 billion annual budget. Emily prepared the corporation’s annual cashflow budget to ensure the availability of funds for daily cash requirements. One of the highlights of Emily’s career was the opportunity to be employed as the Finance Director of the Tri-City People’s Corporation. Tri-City People’s Corporation was a grass-roots community organization in the central ward of Newark, NJ. The agency provided day care, afterschool programs, health care, as well as family and adolescent counselling services to the community. In November 2015, Emily was elected to the Plainfield Board of Education and served as President of the Plainfield Board of Education during the 2015-2016 fiscal year. During Emily’s tenure as Board of Education President, the District faced tremendous budget cuts. Under Emily’s leadership the District averted the devastation of budget cuts which would have caused huge layoffs and a catastrophic impact on our students. Emily is currently serving her fifth year as a Plainfield Board of Education member.
Emily Morgan is a 1981 graduate of Rutgers University – Newark College of Arts and Sciences having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Economics.
Emily’s unique background in grass roots activism and proven capacity to manage and ensure financial accountability makes her the most qualified candidate for the office of Third Ward Councilwoman for the City of Plainfield, NJ.
Emily is particularly interested in measures to provide additional tax relief for our senior citizens. Emily is concerned about the multitude of new projects in our City which have received substantial tax abatements. Historically, these tax abatements are not beneficial to our City.
Emily will not serve as a “rubber stamp” for any administration. Nor will Emily “bloat” the Plainfield budget with unnecessary hires and frivolous trips.
