Township Committee

I am Antoinette Dukes and I love Union Township. I discovered this town 18 years ago. I looked at other towns to live in, but decided to purchase my home here; I’m glad I did.

My career has been in office management, onboarding and scheduling. I have worked for international pharmaceutical companies, telecom, health insurance and a major transportation agency. I am experienced in managing large networks, planning projects and communicating with large numbers of people daily. Fun fact about me – I love taking pictures.

I ran for County Committee District Leader in 2019 for District 45 in Union. During my campaign for District Leader I was asked the same 3 questions from my neighbors; “what is a District Leader” or “we have a District Leader?” or “who are our District Leaders?” It was clear there was no communication between any politicians and my neighborhood and the same goes for most of the township. I took that opportunity to educate my neighbors and through this campaign, want that to continue. It is about educating residents that our government works for us.

It is time we bring Union Township into the 21st century and I promise to do that. We will start streaming all meetings for every department that are open to the public. This way people can see decisions that are being made and weigh in on them live. It will be more transparent. We will interact more with residents on social media to get real-time feedback on things going on in the township. We will start notifying residents of all new projects or proposals well in advance so people can have a say instead of finding out about things after they have been decided.

On the issue of overdeveloping, we need to support the community we have here now; not gentrify it with luxury apartments. They are not building these places for us. They are building these places for developers to line their pockets while they take our parking, affordable housing and storefronts away. Why don’t we stop giving these places tax breaks and use that money to reinvest in our town and our youth? Open up a rec center. Upgrade the basketball courts and parks. Provide internships and working opportunities for students.

I also support Union Township being able to directly elect our Mayor, investing more money in road repair and increasing accountability in government.

In light of recent events it is also time someone finally addresses systematic racism. Again and again and again we see it. When will it end? My opponent has been in office over 20 years. They are not getting the job done. I bring a unique perspective where I am not afraid to speak my mind on this issue. I am ready to reform these institutions from the bottom up by starting in the home. We must invest in the youth, jobs, counseling, and housing; not using money to invest in departments that cause more violence and crime to begin with

I care about Union Township. I care about the unheard. I care about unaddressed issues. I care about my neighbors and our future. The complete lack of communication and transparency will not do. I hope to have your support for Township Committee in Union Township.

Thank you,

Antoinette Dukes
